About Our Chapter

MUMBAI+acumen is a self-organized, volunteer-led group that seeks to inspire and empower like-minded individuals in the the city of Mumbai, India who are passionate about supporting Acumen Fund’s mission to create a world beyond poverty. Our chapter was established in June 2011 and is one of 20+acumen chapters around the world sharing the principles of patient capital, cultivating an understanding of Acumen Fund’s values, and putting these principles into practice in our community.

Meet the team

Prashant Narayanan

Prashant Narayanan

Chair

Prashant has over 5 years of experience in strategy and operations consulting in the banking and telecommunications industry. He currently chairs the Mumbai + Acumen Chapter charting the overall strategic direction. Prashant completed his MBA from the Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad. Prashant was the recipient of the ISB Torchbearers Award awarded to the top 10% of the class for demonstrating leadership, commitment and quality of participation in the ISB campus life throughout the course term. Prashant is also a Chartered Accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and has completed his Bachelors of Commerce from Mumbai University.

Prashant is passionate about start ups and investing particularly in the industries which are enabled by technology. Prashant is currently learning Mandarin and plans to achieve practical proficiency by the end of 2014. Prashant is also a long distance runner and has won a medal at the Hyderabad edition of the marathon in 2013 for a top 100 finish.

Abhimanyu Gehlot

VM&R Lead

Abhimanyu has experience working in the Not For Profit sector for over 3 years. He is currently a core member of the Mumbai+Acumen team and heads Volunteer Management and Recruitment for the Chapter. He is part of the second batch of Engineering from NMIMS, Mumbai and holds a bachelors degree in Telecommunications Engineering.

Abhimanyu was a 2011 Teach For India Fellow where he taught in an under resourced school for two year and executed projects to improve the infrastructure of the school, bring extracurricular such as sports, theater and music to classrooms, establish a library, and a computer center in the school.  He is currently the Fellowship Recruitment Manager at Teach For India. He is passionate about understanding current models and using them to creating inclusive products and services.

Kanika Kapur

Kanika Kapur

Kanika has nearly 6 years of experience in Financial Research & Business Analysis. She currently is a core member of the Mumbai+Acumen team and heads Fundraising for the Chapter. Kanika has completed her MBA from the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), Mumbai. Kanika has received ‘BMS Best Student Award’ given by KPMG for ‘Ranking First in Finance’ in University of Mumbaiduring T.Y.B.M.S. in H.R. College.Kanika is also pursuing her Chartered Financial Analyst from the CFA Institute.

Kanika has always wanted to work towards development and growth to ensure living conditions and standards of people improve. She feels social problems need to be strategically uprooted and replaced with practical sustainable solutions.

Jyothi Vidur

Jyothi Vidur

After having lived in the US and Germany for 14 years, Jyothi moved back to India and is looking to making a career shift in the social sector. She has a BS in Electrical Engineering from the US and has worked in the Semiconductor industry for 9 years mainly responsible for product development, project management and customer engagement.

Having worked in the corporate world where the entire approach to problem solving and new development is systematic and stream-lined, she now wishes to do something different and challenging.  The idea of developing products and providing services for the betterment of the lives and the society is very interesting, extremely challenging and rewarding to her. She is currently a core member of the Mumbai+Acumen team.
